ABOUT

Who I am

My name is Melanie Shomshor. I've been a nurse for 4 years and a military spouse for 1 year. I went to the University of West Florida and graduated in 2013. I got my start working on a PCU cardiac floor at West Florida Hospital. It was an adventurous 3 years! Bedside work is never boring, that's for sure! I met my husband in 2014 while he was stationed at NAS Whiting Field for flight training. We got married in 2016 and soon moved to Rocky Point, NC. My husband is now stationed at New River in Jacksonville, NC flying the CH-53 Super Stallion and I got a job as a staff nurse at a primary care office in Wilmington.

Why I do this

I'm sure every military spouse has thought at one point, "I really wish this life came with a manual!" It's especially true for nurses who are constantly moving and trying to maintain licensure. Do you keep your home state license or your current state license? Which state do you renew in? Both? How do you go about getting a license in a new state? I aim to help answer these questions in one place - and in plain language!

What I can do for you

I hope that you will read my blog and find at least a little peace of mind during the stressful times of a PCS. The following posts should take away some of the unknown aspects of all the technicalities and laws of licensure in order to help make your life easier. This blog is specific to the military spouse nurse and is a one-stop-shop for everything you need to know to make it in this life. This is our gouge.
